Anatolia is not an aesthetic

Anatolia cannot be reduced to a colour palette, ornament, or a historical look. What is valuable, before the motifs visible on the surface, is the system of thought that made those forms possible. Proportion in architecture, material knowledge in craft, repetition across surfaces, the module in geometry, and the relation between the parts that form a whole are all part of it. A design does not have to look historical in order to relate to Anatolia. The real matter is not reproducing the forms of the past but understanding the order that produced them. When geography enters design as a way of thinking rather than as form, it can stay contemporary.
